design: SVC graphics
May 8, 2004 These are examples of my work at the School of Visual Concepts in Seattle. I attend classes to help refine my graphic design skills. The instructors all push me to work outside my normal comfort zone. Sometimes I struggle, but every now and then something turns out pretty good. Here are a few pieces I like.
CD covers make good projects for student artists. The first one is for a recording of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. The second is a study for a color theory class, the imagined music style is Solid Gold Elvis Karaoke. Normally, a black, white and gold color scheme suggests luxury goods, but we'll make an exception in this case.
In one of my classes, we each came up with a simple image to create variations from. I drew a little toy robot, who seemed to take on a life of his own. I made t-shirts from some of the variations; my son wears his all the time. The originals are 13"x19".
Another assignment was to create a poster for an Asian Kite Festival. The originals are 11"x17"
