design: stock.xchng gallery

November 7, 2004 I'm more a consumer than a producer of photography really, but every so often I take a good picture. Here are a few photos you can see in my photo gallery at stock.xchng...

I took my camera along on a trip out to the Washington coast this summer and took lots of photos. You've already seen one, the deep gray sea personality masthead photo. Here are a couple others the stock.xchng curators liked.

My wife is a wonderful gardener. I took lots of photos this summer of plants that called my name somehow. Here are two that you can download in my gallery. For you camera buffs out there, I use a trusty Canon AE-1 manual focus film camera that dates back to the 1970s I think. I shoot mostly on Velvia 100F, sometimes on Kodak Ultra-Color 400.

The stock.xchng site is a cooperative effort of designers and photographers around the world. Photos are contributed without compensation and are available for use by anyone, often with no or easy restrictions. There is no charge or membership fee. My little photo gallery at the site will likely grow over time.

I've used lots of photos from stock.xchng building this site. Here are galleries of some noteworthy photographers who were kind enough to contribute their images:

  • Jozsef Szoke (aka "jf") took the candle masthead photo for the candle personality.
  • Tamás Olajos (aka "tct") took the red key and lock photo I used on the sites page for the security level indicator thumbnail.
  • Deon Staffelbach (aka "LaDeon") took the piano photo on my music page.
  • Lucian Binder (aka "pipp") took the photo of the reclining sculpture I used as a thumbnail when writing about my friend Don Lee on the influences page.

Kind thanks to all the generous photographers who contributed images used on this site.
