sites and systems
In my professional work, I design and craft user interfaces for software and web applications. In my personal web design work, I render prayers of the Bahá'í Faith into diverse world languages. Here are some examples of my craft:
2007
Бахаи келмелери
http://www.bahaiprayers.org/ky/
Bahá'í Prayers in Kyrgyz. The prayers were sent to me by Kushtar Mamytaliev, originally from Kyrgyzstan and now living in Poland. The images are courtesy of several very kind photographers on flickr who granted use permission to their Kyrgyzstan area photos without charge. Editing Cyrillic text was an adventure. Kushtar and I enjoyed working together and we're talking about doing a Polish language prayers site as our next project. I'm really happy with the way the flickr community contributed so generously.

Bahá´i Bænir á Íslandi
http://www.bahaiprayers.org/isl/
Bahá'í Prayers in Icelandic. This short page of prayers was a collaboration with Dagný Einarsdóttir of the Icelandic Bahá´i community.
Road and Tri Sports
http://www.roadandtrisports.com
Road and Tri Sports is a high-end racing and triathlete bike shop in Marin County. My cousin Rob King is the owner, as well as the King in King Custom Cycles. Rob asked me to design a simple website for his shop that he could update the content on himself. Here's what we came up with.

Ôkosuwôkak wuci Mohiks-Piqut Uyôtowáwôk
http://www.bahaiprayers.org/mohegan/
Bahá'í Prayers in Mohegan-Pequot. This page was a collaboration with translator Stephanie Fielding of the Mohegan tribe, who is helping to restore this sleeping language. Stephanie also took the photo.
Bahá'í modlitby
http://www.bahaiprayers.org/cs/
Bahá'í Prayers in Czech. I worked with text courtesy of Petr Bohac of the Czech Bahá'í Secretariat. Images are courtesy of the kind photographers of morguefile. I was in a mood for blurry images - maybe it's time to get my glasses checked. Get it, checked? Groan.
Twisted Pair Website
Here's a little sample of my work as a writer for Twisted Pair Solutions. We just finished a refresh of our website. The design, navigation, and colors were inherited - I picked out new photos, wrote new text copy, and tweaked the home page. This is an interim makeover - it's about time for a remodel. learn more...
Bahá'í Prayers in Lao
http://www.bahaiprayers.org/lao/
Bahá'í Prayers in Lao. I scanned a small prayer book, cleaned up the images, and created the design. Pixel pattern courtesy of K10K. Wish I could read Lao, but it was fun to work on anyway. My family likes the buttons - they were a little Photoshop experiment.
Expeditors Quoting System
This internal system was a major redesign. The earlier system was rejected by users as too complex and time-consuming. I reduced the number of screens, improved the workflow, and freshened up the appearance, then constructed the UI and helped the Java developers integrate it. It was just going into production as I left Expeditors. The Quoting system is used to generate all the prices they give to customers, so I think they'd prefer I didn't show you lots of screenshots. This was a very satisfying project to work on; great people, solid teamwork, and everyone in good spirits despite a tight deadline.

Lutje Bahá'í
http://www.bahaiprayers.org/sq/
Bahá'í Prayers in Albanian. I designed and developed the site in collaboration with Hans J. Thimm of the Bahá'í National Information Office in Albania.

My new personal site, with lots of little JavaScript examples and multiple personalities. But wait, you're here, so you know this already.
Expeditors AMS Manager
AMS stands for "Automated Manifest System". Expeditors sends cargo manifests to US Customs prior to the ship sailing or the plane taking off, and Customs responds with a variety of status messages. This system lets Expeditors search through this deluge of data and track their cargo. I designed and constructed the user interface, and helped the developers integrate it. This is a closely-held proprietary system, so it's probably best to omit larger screenshots.
2003
Dithapelo Tsa Bahá'í
http://www.bahaiprayers.org/setswana/
