our little family: a day at the zoo
May 20, 2004 Our little family took a vacation trip to San Diego earlier this Spring. It was sunny and warm, and we all enjoyed the break. We tore ourselves away from the pool long enough for a day trip to the zoo. Miles brought along his Kodak digital camera and had fun taking pictures.
The warty pigs won the prize for most pungent exhibit, narrowly beating out the Bactrian camels. The carp were peaceful and handsome.
The orangutans were active and interested in visitors the day we went. We watched them watch us watch them watch us...
Miles has a friend at school who's "into flamingos." Most of the kids seem to have bonded with some totem animal or other. Don't know how this happens, maybe it comes to you after a long session on the foursquare court. Miles took lots of meerkat photos, I liked this one the best.
We stood in line for a long time to see the baby panda. He had climbed up a tree. We saw the tree, but we couldn't see him. Sigh. Cheri really wanted to see the baby panda. We did see his mom, though. Miles found a mellow goat to make friends with as we were leaving.
The San Diego Zoo is world-renowned for both
their exhibits and their conservation efforts. They seem uncommonly good at coaxing rare animals into getting frisky and making
babies. Be sure to pay them a visit if you're in the neighborhood.
